This new 3rd Edition of Code of Canon Law Annotated, or the "Red Code," has been updated to contain all of the references to all the norms given by the Holy See until the month of May 2020.
In some cases, this has involved alterations to the text of the canons themselves, as in the case of the norms for the special process for the declaration of the nullity of a marriage, cc. 1671-1691, altered in the Motu Propio Mitis Iudex Dominus Iesus (15 August 2015), and the norms established by the Motu Propio De Concordia inter Codices (31 May 2016), to bring into harmony some aspects of the discipline of the Latin Code and the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches. Even more recently, the Motu Propio Communis vita (19 March 2019) modified the texts of cc. 694 and 729 concerning religious who abandon common life.
The Holy See has promulgated many other norms on specific points, beginning with the Instruction Dignitas Connubii, published by the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts, which developed the special process for annulment of a marriage, and whose norms, except in the particular points abrogated by the Motu Propio Mitis Iudex Dominus Iesus as detailed in this edition.
Features of the new 3rd Edition "Red Code": - Commentary on every canon; - Latin text and its English translation in double column format; and - Four appendices
The Code of Canon Law Annotated, 3rd Edition, has been edited by Most Rev. Juan Ignacio Arrieta, the Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts and former Dean of the Canonical Law Faculties of the Holy Cross in Rome and in Venice.
